Fetal Echocardiogram

Just like when I was pregnant with Nate, it was suggested that I get a fetal echocardiogram around 22 weeks to check the heart structure.  While our reproductive endocrinologist maintains that there really isn't any current data to support any correlation between IVF pregnancies and heart defects, his stance was that it couldn't hurt to have an extra scan, so might as well go with it.

We had the scan this morning, and baby girl looks great.  Her heart structures all look just as they should, and she seems to be growing appropriately.  The only "issue", which isn't even one is that they, again, saw an echogenic intracardiac focus on her heart.  Nate had one too, and while it can be considered a "soft marker" for Trisomy 21 (Downs Syndrome), combined with the low risk factor our first trimester screening revealed, it really is not cause for concern at all.  In fact, apparently they are seeing more and more EIFs during ultrasounds because the technology is that much better and quite simply put, they can!

So all in all, everything looks great for our sweet baby girl.  The reality of being past the halfway point of this pregnancy hadn't really hit me until we were getting the ultrasound and I realized that we're getting closer and closer to August!
