Everyday holds the possibility of a miracle...: Two Months Old!

Dear Amelia,

Two months old!

Today you are two months old. I honestly think that the last two months have been the quickest of my life! On one hand, it feels like we just met you yesterday, and on the other hand, it really seems like you have always been a part of our family and our lives. One thing that is certain is that you have always been a part of my heart.

Your second month was just about as busy as your first, as we’ve all been settling into our family routine. We enjoyed a trip to Cape May, entertained family as we celebrated your christening, and took you to your first baseball game! In addition to those special events, you have accompanied us to your big brother’s gym class every week as well as trips to preschool to pick him up and drop him off. We’re looking forward to taking you on your first big road trip out to Ohio this coming month!

You have the sweetest personality and are a very calm baby overall. You went through a few weeks at the end of your first month and beginning of your second with a little bit of a fussy time in the early evening, but you seem to have moved past that already. You have started to smile all of the time and we can often catch pictures of you showing off that gorgeous toothless grin! You especially like to smile for your brother or when Mommy and/or Daddy are talking to you and having some one on one time with you! You seem to enjoy sitting in your swing in the mornings and stretching out on your playmats in the afternoon and evening. Sometimes, Daddy puts you in your bouncy chair and you hang out in the kitchen with him while he cooks!

Amelia, you are a wonderful sleeper and Mommy and Daddy are so thankful for that! We tend to put you down to sleep as close to 9 pm as we can (sometimes a little before, sometimes a little after), and you sleep for about eight or nine hours! Then you wake up, eat, and go back down for another two to four hours. You don’t really have a set napping schedule during the day because we’re out and about so much. We’ve found that if you don’t get a few good naps in during the day, you get a little grumpy in the evening, so we try to make sure we give you some good, uninterrupted sleep at some point in the afternoon, whether that is while we are out doing errands or hanging out at home.

You seem to be getting more used to your car seat and don’t get quite as grumpy in it anymore. This bodes well for our trip to Ohio. When you do get fussy in your car seat, big brother Nate is often heard saying “It’s okay, it’s okay…” trying to calm you down next to you in the car. It is very sweet! You are kind of indifferent overall about your pacifier. Sometimes you need it in the car to calm down, but most of the time at home, you could take it or leave it. You don’t really need it to sleep most of the time. You discovered that you can put your hands in your mouth, and often Mommy and Daddy put your pacifier in your mouth to discourage a finger sucking habit. We can eventually take a pacifier away, but not your thumb or fingers!

You are a very happy water baby. In fact, you had a bath this morning and you were so calm and serene the entire time, which is wonderful. You didn’t get mad at all until you got out and had to get dressed! Speaking of being dressed, you are currently wearing 0-3 month size clothing and size 1 prefold diapers with covers. You have an adorable fall wardrobe and Mommy is so excited to play “dress up” with you!

You’ve started to coo just a little more and it is certainly adorable, but still seems to be a surprise to you when the sound escapes your lips! Mommy and Daddy can’t wait to hear what your voice will sound like! You still start to stir and wake up by just making adorable little grunting sounds. You really don’t cry all that often at all! (But Mommy maintains that even your cries are adorable and sweet!)

Get used to the bows, dear!

You are a fantastic eater! You and Mommy have found your stride with nursing and your latch is excellent. During the day, you eat about every two hours like clockwork. Sometimes in the mornings, you eat every hour to make up for your long stretch of sleep overnight. Mommy has been pumping in the mornings after you wake up too just to keep her supply up in the wake of your great sleeping. You have taken a few bottles of this pumped milk, but you prefer to get your nourishment straight from the source. You are the opposite from your brother - he was a slow nurser, but quick with the bottle. You are much more efficient nurser, but take your time when Daddy gives you a bottle. On average, you spend about two and a half hours a day nursing! This means lots of quality time and snuggles with Mommy!

You had your two month checkup at the pediatrician today. You weighed in at 11 lbs, 8.5 oz (75%) and 23 3/4 inches (95%). You’re our tall little girl! Mommy can hardly believe that you’ve gained over four pounds since you were born! There must be something good in that milk you’re drinking! You were declared “perfect” and got your first big set of vaccines. You did NOT enjoy getting the shots at all and screamed and screamed. Mommy got you calmed down, and we spent the rest of the evening cuddling and nursing to make you feel better. I’m so sorry to put you through the shots, but Mommy and Daddy do believe that getting vaccinated is for your own good.

"'Sup?"

Millie seems to be the predominant nickname for you at the moment, though Mommy and Daddy aren’t sure that we’re ready to let the rest of the world in on calling you that. We kind of like for it to be a nice “in house” nickname. Nate still alternates between calling you “baby sister” and “Ah-me-ah”. Whatever we call you, we love you so much sweet girl!

You were born into a silly family!

Amelia, you have brought your family so much joy in such a short period of time! We love you so much and Mommy and Daddy are looking forward to seeing what is next for you, sweet girl!
