Three Months Old!

Dear Amelia,
Three Months!
It’s hard to believe that we have already reached the three month milestone!  You’ve been with us for three whole months already!  Wow!  That’s one quarter of a year!  I’ll probably say this every month, and sound like a broken record, but it really seems like you have always been here with our family.  Getting to know you over these past three months has been absolutely wonderful, and I can’t imagine life without you in it!

Millie and Mommy
Your third month was very exciting as it included your first trip to Grandma and Grandpa’s house in Ohio!  Mommy was thrilled to take you back “home” to introduce you to some pretty special people.  We took your very first trip to a pumpkin patch where your big brother chose a pumpkin for you.  You also got to celebrate your first Halloween this month, but sorry, no candy for you yet!

Trick or Treating

You have a sweet and happy demeanor, Amelia.  It’s honestly such a delight to be around you.  You are a very smiley and cheerful baby who loves her big brother!  You really seem to enjoy watching him play and perform for you!  Your day typically goes like this: you wake up and nurse and then Mommy and Daddy put you in your swing and you nap for most of the rest of the morning, usually waking up a bit before lunchtime.  After lunchtime, you often play on your playmat, batting at the toys that are hanging from it, and smiling at the pretty baby in the mirror.  Late afternoon, you tend to nap a bit more, snuggle with Mommy or Daddy, or hang out in your bouncy seat.  You join us at the table for dinnertime by snuggling in your bouncy seat.  After dinner, you like snuggles and maybe a bit more playtime before going to bed around 8 or 9 pm.

You have been a great sleeper for most of the month, often giving us 10 hour stretches at a time!  You hit your 3 month growth spurt about a week ago, so in addition to eating non-stop all day, you decided you’d like to wake up again for another meal in the middle of the night.  Unfortunately, this coincided with your big brother having croup, so Mommy and Daddy walked around like zombies without much sleep for a few days.  You’re starting to settle back in to a longer sleep schedule though, which makes everyone happier.   You're not as into the swaddle lately, so we've been letting you have one hand free at night.  Looks like we'll be transitioning away from the swaddle in the next month.  We can pretty much always count on your morning nap, but your afternoon naps can be a little harder to come by, even though we know you need it lest we risk you getting overtired and grumpy.

All swaddled up!

You are a champ in the car now!  You did an awesome job on the ride out to Ohio and the ride back home, sleeping for most of the time, or quietly enjoying the scenery.  Mommy did have to do some interesting contortions from the front seat to give you your pacifier back, but thats okay.    You are much happier in your car seat on our day to day driving around town, which is great, because it’s no fun to have an unhappy baby while driving to Target!  I can’t imagine that it is fun being the unhappy baby either!

You were happy in your carseat because you knew Grandma was at the other end!

You still seem to like baths, which is great, but don’t seem to like having a baby massage afterwards, which is the opposite of your brother!  We’re glad you’re a happy water baby - so happy, in fact, that we took you to the pool for the first time while we were in Ohio with Grandma and Grandpa! You seemed to enjoy yourself.  We’re looking forward to many more swimming adventures with you!  You are still wearing 0-3 month clothing, but have worn a few 3-6 month items and they were only a little large on you.  I’m guessing that in the next month, you’ll start wearing more and more 3-6 month clothing.  You are also still using size one prefold diapers with covers, but I think we’ll pull the Best Bottoms out to use soon.

First time in the pool!

You are cooing more and more, and Mommy loves to hear you “talk”!  Just today, you even added some squealing in there when you were playing.  You like to have little conversations with Mommy and Daddy, and have just started to do a little half giggle.  We just can’t wait for the full baby giggles to come out.  Something tells me that your big brothers antics may be just the thing you need to inspire them!

You still are nursing quite well, despite Mommy having a few issues here and there with plugged ducts.  You take expressed milk from a bottle well also, which is great.  Grandma was especially happy about this as she got to feed you a few times while we were in Ohio while Mommy and Daddy were out visiting with some friends.  You still average about two and a half hours a day eating, but last week during your growth spurt, you kicked that up to three and a half or four hours!  Wow!

Snuggles with Grandma

No doctor’s appointment this month, so we’ll have to wait another few weeks to get your updated stats.  You sure are growing like a weed!  You are a healthy and growing little girl, and that is all that Mommy and Daddy could ask for!

Pretty girl :)

Calling you Millie seems to be sticking.  Sometimes, Mommy calls you “Little Bug” and your brother “Big Bug”.  We refer to you as Amelia, Baby Sister, Milkie Millie, and MillieMooBear, much of the time.  Mommy has texted “MillieMooBear” enough that the autocorrect in my cellphone has “learned” it as a proper name!

Daddy's under your spell!

Amelia, you are an amazing little girl and perfect fourth member of our family.  We love you so much and are so excited about all that lies ahead with you.  Keep growing, little girl!  Mommy, Daddy, and Big Brother love you so much!

Happy Three Months!

Love,

Mommy
