One Month!

1 month today!

Dear Nathaniel,

Today marks one month since you entered the world!!  The past month has been the best month of Mommy and Daddy's lives!  Getting to know you has been amazing... and frustrating... and humbling... and fantastic.  You are a sweet little boy and you have captured our hearts with your adorable ways.

Nate has Daddy and Mommy wrapped around his little fingers...
This first month has been a big month for you.  You had your first Easter as well as your Christening and Confirmation this past Saturday.  You've taken over the house and Mommy and Daddy have learned a lot about what it means to have another "roommate" in the house!

Looking serious about this one month thing...
You make so many silly faces!! Daddy likes to capture them with his iPhone and then post them with funny captions on Facebook.  Sometimes your faces make you look more like Mommy and other times they make you look like Daddy.  You've started to smile a little bit more, but we haven't unlocked the secret to being able to make you smile - you do it on your own time!
ooooh!
You are quite the sleeper!  Once Mommy got the advice to stop waking you up in the middle of the night to feed you (since you are gaining weight well and have plenty of dirty diapers), you have treated us to many nights with 6 hour stretches of sleep!  At first, it freaked Mommy out because she was sure you were starving yourself, but it just seems like you enjoy sleeping (which is great because Mommy and Daddy enjoy sleeping too!).  You never cry when you wake up at night - you just squeak and grunt and that's enough to wake us up so that we can change and feed you.

You love music!  We always have music playing for you - during diaper changes, at night to sleep, when you nap alone in your room, when we take you for a ride in the car - music always has to be playing!  Mommy made the mistake of talking to Grandma on the Bluetooth in the car one day and the music stopped - you were not happy about that!!  As soon as the music came back on, you stopped crying and were a happy passenger once again!

Napping on Mommy
Overall, you don't cry or get fussy that often... and when you do, we know that it really isn't THAT fussy compared to many newborns... we're just spoiled by your sweet disposition!  You really like to fight sleep during the day when you are napping... you will often wake up after a few minutes and scream bloody murder for just a moment and just as quickly, you are asleep again.  This usually happens two or three times until we know you are really asleep.

It seems as though you are hating bath time less and less.  In fact, the last two baths that Mommy has given you have resulted in almost no crying!  We think that soon you will realize that bathtime is supposed to be fun... and once you find out you can splash us, then you'll really be into it!

Mommy and Nate!
You're starting to find your voice and like to make cute little sounds - but are still learning that those sounds are coming from YOU!  It's really amazing to see how much you are learning every day.  One thing we know for certain, you know who your Daddy and Mommy are and you will often calm down immediately if someone else is holding you and you are fussy when you are handed to one of us.  We're not going to lie - we enjoy being the favorites!!!

You are still wearing mostly newborn clothes, but are sneaking into some of your 0-3 month onesies. We are very interested to see how much you have grown when we take you to the pediatrician on Friday morning.  We got you some preemie prefold diapers because the ones we had were too bulky for you, but it seems like they are now starting to fit a bit better, and the preemie ones just aren't holding enough when you are wearing them!

Little Man, you are a joy and we love you so much! Keep on growing and learning and thriving (but not too fast, okay?!)

Love,
Mommy
